Hi all, I’m hoping someone can help us. My grandfather was just diagnosed last week in Orlando at Orlando Regional Medical Center. We do not feel confident in the care he is receiving at all. It seems that after 2 weeks in the hospital he is sicker than he was when admitted. They cannot get his hemoglobin or platelets up high enough to go more than 24 hours without a transfusion yet they sent him home yesterday and they want to start chemo on Monday. After two weeks in the hospital he received over 30 transfusions. We are all very new to this disease and from our reading can see that chemo is not a designated form of treatment for all the subtypes yet we have not heard back from pathology yet on what his subtype even is. All this to say we need a second opinion. From this website I can see there are several places in FL that are recommended. Of course none are in Orlando and he is not in good shape to be wasting a bunch of time contacting several places and waiting on answers. Is there a particular center in FL that would be recommended over another? We are about an hour from Moffitt and an hour and half from Shands, but if Miami was hands down and away the best place we would make every attempt to make that happen. Thank you so much for your advice.
