After bloodwork three times showing hemoglobin or either 8 or 9 each time, he had a colonoscopy and then an upper GI endoscopy as well as a chest X-ray as they assumed there must be internal bleeding. He was also tested for celiac disease. He is 56, has always been pale with low energy and is fatigued. He has always used an inhaler, so it is hard to say if he has “shortness of breath”. Most recently, his primary care physician just said, “Come back in 3 months for another CBC”. I am concerned that he should go ahead and see a hematologist now. Thoughts?

Thank you for your post. I know this is a difficult situation for you and I would recommend that he go to one of our Centers of Excellence in MDS for a second opinion especially if you feel he may be undertreated. Following is a link to our Centers of Excellence worldwide https://www.mds-foundation.org/mds-centeres-of-excellence/.
