Hi Shirlsgirl,
Thanks for all the info re irr/filtered blood. methinks I must protest too much! I am very much an advocate for Jim, who like Luke, according to Margaret can also be passive. Isn’t it frustrating, I nearly tear my hair out at times, just getting water or a tablet into Jim. Thank God he is not so very ill with this dreadful disorder, just his platelets but he has begun to lose weight in the last two months and I’m monitoring that closely.
Thanks again Love to ALL

I had a BMB on Oct. 19,2005. A copy of the results were given to me on 11/9/2005, however the date on the copy of the report that I received was Oct. 27, 2005. That tells me that it took 8 days for the total analysis.
BMB was done at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa.
November 16, 2005 at 7:40 pm #9118shirlsgirlMemberWell, absolutely wonderful news. I’m SOOOO thrilled, mom is too! Mom received her bmb results (minus the cytogenetics…won’t be ready until her next visit in 4 wks). No mention this time of MDS or CMML!! cellularity at 50%…reticulin stain for fibrosis – negative. No increase in blasts. Her biopsy states unremarkable, and that to me is totally remarkable!

EsmeNovember 16, 2005 at 8:53 pm #9120SuzanneMemberWonderful news! It can happen! I gather the credit goes to the Chemo with Gleevec. Hope she has lots of wonderful healthy days ahead.
November 17, 2005 at 3:21 pm #9121shirlsgirlMemberThank you Esme and Suzanne!
November 17, 2005 at 3:39 pm #9122dinerMemberJules, I’m assuming your BMB was good. You have been the one I have been encouraged by with the results you’ve had from Vidaza. I’m starting my 3rd cycle Sunday. My counts went up a week ago and then down 5 days later. I got real excited and then deflated. Dee
November 17, 2005 at 5:47 pm #9123gemloyearMemberHi Jody. Just wonderful to get such great news for a change. It certainly helps to relieve some of the stress. This calls for a celebration!
Glen had his first BMB in 18 mo.this week and will receive the results at his next appt. on nov.22.I guess it was put off until now because of all of his illnesses this year. We are anxious to get the report, but at least we don’t have as long a wait as some do.
I’m so happy for Shirley, and will pray for healthy days ahead.
EllieNovember 17, 2005 at 10:25 pm #9124shirlsgirlMemberThank you Ellie. Best of luck at Glen’s appointment next week, hope you receive some good news too! How’s he feeling? Sending positive thoughts and prayers his way. Take care, Jody
November 18, 2005 at 1:30 am #9125JimbobMemberI had regular labs on Wednesday (yesterday) and the results came back as “cells were hemolyzed”. Doctor said that means they were breaking-up. Did a BMB and aspiration and said he will get back with us asap if anything to worry about otherwise in will take almost 2 weeks for the full results. I am getting awfully run-down again.
JimNovember 18, 2005 at 2:59 am #9126shirlsgirlMemberHi Jim,
Try not to worry. Most often when blood is hemolyzed it is because the blood was a ‘difficult draw’. Did the technician taking your blood have a hard time getting the sample? Did your doctor repeat the blood tests to try to get a better sample that’s not hemolyzed? There’s alot of great info. on causes of hemolysis and collection technique in this article:
http://www.bd.com/vacutainer/pdfs/techtalk/TechTalk_Jan2004_VS7167.pdf
also, check out this article on hemolytic anemia:

How are you feeling Jim? I’m hoping and praying all goes well with your bmb results. Please take care, Jody
ps. I’m a lab. technologist.I used to work in chemistry and usually the hemolyzed samples were due to collection difficulties. Hope that’s all it is.
November 18, 2005 at 3:55 am #9127gemloyearMemberJody, Glen’s leg is improving still very swollen. he was on lovenox and coumadin to prevent clots, now only on coumadin.Thank goodness his platelets are up otherwise I don’t know what could be done for the clots. I just hope they stay up. He still gets severe headaches, they haven’t figured out the cause, perhaps rebound from pain meds? I think the bmb will shed some light on his situation. He just had a squamois cell carcinoma removed from his ear.Doing better than he was. Thanks for asking.
EllieNovember 18, 2005 at 7:45 pm #9128JimbobMembershirlsgirl,
They did take a second draw, from another site, and still had the same results. The doctor wants me to temporarily discontiue the various supplements to see if there could be an interaction or if one of them is the catylist or such to cause the condition. I have been very tired lately and experiencing more pain, especially in my back. Also, my ferritin level has gone up bove 2300. The doctor wants to go one step at a time so we’ll see what happens.
