Hey everyone,
just a quick note to update you on my father’s hospital stay.
Tuesday was a good day; his abscess was smaller and he was up and about….I was thinking that he would be home by the weekend, however, yesterday I visited a totally different man. His heart was beating quite irregularly and he was very tired. He made the comment in the morning that it felt like he had a stroke because he was so weak. He had slept very deeply that night, but coughed a lot. When I was visiting him he kept falling asleep when I was talking to him…. It was very upsetting… He was also nauseated. Today they found out from a scan that his abscess had grown and the bottom section of his right lung had collapsed, which could possibly be the beginning pneumonia….. His internist who came to see him yesterday fluffed off my dad’s concern for his symptoms and told him to stop watching the clock and checking his pulse….. He is also the one who told him to “get off his butt and get moving”, which he had been, and a few days later he is in the ER w/ this abscess….. I hate the way this doc. tends to discount his feelings & concerns. Some doctors don’t look at all the symptoms together, which paints a totally different picture than looking at them individually… Needless to say, my dad is quite scared, as am I…. He is amazing though… Doing everything he can do to make a difference. His courage & his determination both inspire me and give me hope.
Well, I just wanted to let you all know… I hope you all have a peaceful weekend w/ the sun shining brightly on your shoulders…. As always, you are in my thoughts & prayers.
XO,
Kathryn

Some doctors are so arrogant, huh? My MIL’s is also. I would just encourage you to advocate, advocate, advocate for your dad. I have to for my MIL. When I disagree with the doctor, I let him know. Can you get a second opinion while he’s in the hosp.? I would if you can swing it. The issue of not taking all of his symptoms together is a biggie. Doctors seem to move from one symptom to the next treating them individually without considering them altogether. I have found the web priceless with info. Maybe you can research and ask the doctor about different things you find. That’s what I do and although the guy is still arrogant, at least I’ve been able to get them to look at other stuff when it’s necessary.
Hang in there,
patti

So sorry your dad and the rest of your family have to go through this. It wasn’t that long ago when we had problems with the ER doctors when my mom was in the hospital. All I can say is keep track of everything they do. I don’t know about your dad’s hospital but where my mom was they didn’t offer much information unless we asked. Try to stay positive. Your in my thoughts and prayers.

So sorry your dad and family had to experience that type of behavior from his Dr. We too have had a few whose bedside manner lacked compassion. Hope your dad is feeling better very soon. Keeping everyone on forum in my thoughts and prayers.
Take care,

I’m so sorry to hear about this. You and your father are in my prayers.
My father is being treated at Emory. Is that where you are?
June 24, 2005 at 6:25 pm #7160KathrynMemberHey all…
Today my dad is having his drain tube reinserted… for some reason it had shifted. Also they are running some tests in regards to the pneumonia… I will possibly be spending the night w/ him, if he will let me , since my step.’s daughter might be visiting and she will be at their home w/ her… They live right down the street from the hospital, so it is very convenient. Over all, he is hanging quite tough!!!
Riley, my dad is at Northside Hospital. I hope you & yours are doing well.
Well, thank you everyone for your thoughts & prayers. They mean so much.
Happy Friday!! Have a beautiful weekend!
xo,
Kathryn
