Jim,
You mentioned on another post that there are some fruits that shouldn’t be juiced because of their sugar content and cancer feeding off of the sugar. Could you post which fruits/veggies to avoid? My MIL juices also and we want to make sure she’s not using anything that would cause her disease to get worse. Thanks

October 17, 2005 at 7:50 pm #9404JimbobMemberPatti,
the only fruits that that were recommended were lemons and tomatoes (yes, tomato is really a fruit). I still used other fruits for flavor, but limited amount. “sugar” is in so many things as fructose, corn syrup, sucrose, etc. It is hard to get away and hard to do away with the sweetness but we use stevia instead. I still cannot find the sheets of recommended foods and supplements and what to avoid along with explanation. I will keep looking and post when I find it.October 17, 2005 at 11:56 pm #9405pattiMemberThanks, Jim. I know mom currently uses lemon is a liver cleanse she does daily. She juices 1 cucumber, 1 lemon, 1 beet, 2tlbs olive oil and drinks it. She says it’s actually pretty good. I know she juices some other stuff too.
If you ever find your list I’d love to have it. Thanks again.

October 18, 2005 at 2:25 am #9406Luke and MargaretMemberHi all;
I got alarmed when I read the sugar caution too. However, the role of pineapple in stabilizing blood levels seems to be so important that there must be a balance here. The rest of the day can easily be sugar free, but we gotta keep that pineapple in the juicer, I think.
MargaretOctober 18, 2005 at 4:10 am #9407Sandy LMemberHi Patti,
How do you put the beet in the juicer? Isn’t it too hard? Wash it first
Also someone said to use pinapple juice and black sesame seeds. I bought the sesame seeds today. Do I put them in the juicer? What does it taste like? How much do you use ?
October 18, 2005 at 5:15 am #9408pattiMemberMargaret,
I agree with the pineapple. Mom does hers daily. It helps too much with the platelets. And like you said, sugar free the rest of the day.
Sandy, the beets are very hard to juice. Mom actually has an industrial juicer (was about $100) that she uses. None of the kind they sell in stores would juice them. Mom also uses a tablespoon of black sesame seeds daily. She just chews them up. I think you’re not supposed to cook them or heat them or anything otherwise they lose their effectiveness.
Hope that helps.

October 18, 2005 at 6:26 am #9409Sandy LMemberThanks Patti.
I will try it.
October 18, 2005 at 7:04 am #9410gemloyearMemberSandy, I would peel the beets first and quarter them.Wash everything well, you need to be careful of bacteria, & nematobes etc.

October 19, 2005 at 4:35 am #9412pattiMemberSandy,
Not sure if I gave you the whole cocktail that mom juices with the beets. She juices together:
1 cucumber
1 beet
1 lemon
2 tbls olive oilShe does it daily. Says it actually tastes pretty good (I can’t even imagine!). This is a traditional liver cleanse that she does because she’s taking neupogen and procrit and most drugs are processed through the liver. Don’t know about these two but it’s what the naturepath wants her to do. Seems like her liver is doing well but her kidneys are struggling.
She also either eats the pineapple or juices a pineapple daily (juicing is a lot of work!).

July 4, 2006 at 4:18 am #9414betyMemberWhich juicers do you all recommend?
July 4, 2006 at 6:29 am #9415pattiMemberHi Bety,
Mom uses a commercial juicer made by Champion. New it’s about $240. The light duty juicers in stores won’t juice the beets because they are so hard.
Also, I owe you a list of NY practioners. Sorry I’m so late getting it to you. Been a busy couple of days.

July 4, 2006 at 12:48 pm #9416Jack_dup1MemberI also use a champion juicer I bought on the NET, I’ve had others, but prefer this on. There is less going to waste with it, the pulp comes out almost dry.
I can’t chew the seseme seeds, plus if you do chew them, it has to be thouroughly, it does no good to swallow them whole. I grind mine with a coffee grinder, add it to a little Crystal Lite, stir briskly and drink it down.
JackJuly 4, 2006 at 7:03 pm #9417betyMemberPatti, Thank you for the names of the ny practioners. Getting there might be difficult. If you have names in the Brooklyn or NYC area, it would be much more convenient. Right now I have two juicers but I will look for the Champion brand. All the best, Bety
