    I promised to post my vitamin list weeks ago, but I had computer problems and I am just now getting around to it. My vitamins are prescribed by a chiropractor. He looks at my monthly blood counts and makes adjustments based on my current symptoms and counts. When I started on the vitmains six years ago I was also having more infections and transfusions than I am having now.

    The vitmins don’t treat the MDS per se, but help keep me healthier overall. My last transfusion was a year ago. These recommendations are also based on the fact that I haven’t yet gone through menopause yet.

    No. 1. I take B12 Plus Anabolic Labs 250mcg = 4167%Daily Value once a week;

    2. Tri-B Plex (Anabolic Laboratories) once a day it includes the following:thiamin (as thiamin hydrochloride) 100mg 6667% DV, Ribolflavin 40 mg 2353%DV,
    Niancin ( as niacinamide) 200mg 1000%DV ,Vitamin B6( as pyridoxine)50mg 2500% DV Folic Acid 400mcg 100% DV, Vitamin b12 (from cyanocobalamin)25mg 417%DV, Biotin 300mcg 100%, Pantothenic Acid (as calcium pantothenate)100mg 1000%Dv.

    3. I take a Pineal X-tra glandular concentrate once a day that includes the following: Bone Marrow concentrate 100mg, Flaxseed Meal 20mg, Pineal concentrate 7mg and Pituitary concentrate 3mg. It is from Tidwell Labs in Wichita KS.

    4. I also take L-Tyrosine a 500mg tablet once a day that is a free form amino acid from Tidwell labs.

    5. Then we add Calcium 6 plus supplement from Energique Nutrition of Woodbine IA. It includes Vitamin C (ascorbic Acid) 50mg 83%DV Vitamin D-3 400IU 100%DV, Calcium Citrate 750mg 75% Gluconate Carbonate, Lactate, Ascorbate and Microcystaline Hydroxyapatite. Magnesium 375mg 94% DV Boron 3mg Glutamic Acid 60mg (from 75mg Glutamic Acid HCI) and L-Lysine 29 mg form L-Lysine HCI)

    6. I take organic iodine drops from (potassium iodide). 750mcg 500% DV from Tidwell Labs in Wichita, KS

    7. Marine EPA form Energique Nutrition in Woodbine IA. Three per day which include Natural Triglyceride Marine 1000mg providing the folowing: Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) 180mg , Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) 120mg, and Total Omega-3 Fatty Acids 300mg It is primarily an Omega-3 supplement.

    I am also diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I don’t know that this helps with the MDS except that I feel better and my need for transfusions and antibiotics are less when I adhere to my vitamin regimen.

    I think that any Center of Excellence I have been to currently recommends against vitamin supplements, if you are on one of the treatment protocols for MDS. I have gone off my vitamins several times to be evaluated and everytime I do my blood counts dive. I strongly recommend that you do not attempt to duplicate my list, but find a physician, nutritionist or chiropractor to help guide you to what is right for you and your other health conditions. This works well for me. Lindajo

    LindaJo,

    Interesting list! My MIL was taking something similar to the pineal-x you take. She was using it for bone marrow function. I think what you said about not self prescribing is so important. Mom has done much better since having a naturopath go through what she’s taking then when we were flying by the seat of our pants. I find it so sad and unfortunate that doctors keep telling people to go off of their supplements. To be honest, mom’s doc doesn’t know a single thing she’s taking because we count on the naturopath to guide us(she’s a cancer specialist). We spend more time telling the doc what we will and won’t do then he tells us what we will do. He doesn’t like it at all but I think that’s part of taking control of one’s health.

    Mom has had the same experience you did. When she stopped some of her supplements (we were experimenting) she had tremendous difficulties with her kidneys and other things. After a week she went right back on those supplements and was fine again.

    Thanks for the list. It’s always interesting to see what others are doing. And excellent advice as well. While some may choose to go “all natural” I do believe there is a certain “compliment” that takes place to integrating natural medicine with conventional medicine. That’s the part that I think so many doctors miss (to their patient’s peril).

    All the best,

    Patti

    Dear Russ;

    I just saw your posting, and noticed you indicated you started dacogen 8-21-06. This is the treatment the hemo has suggested for my husband. I would be interest in how this treatment worked for you, and what side effects you may or may not have encountered. I pray you are in remission.

    God Bless,
    Karen

    Karen, Tomorrow I will finish just my 2nd rnd.
    Personally, I think it has been easier then the Vidaza – the IV takes longer; about 1.5 hrs for 5 days vs. the 2 shots in the stomach for 7 days with Vidaza. The upside is no soreness and I have been feeling good. Both Vidaza and Dacogen gave me constipation but I can fight that OK. I am encouraged by the results so far but it is too early to tell. My PLTs and WBC went way down after rnd #1 but after 2 weeks came back up with WBC and PLT normal. The HGB stayed about 9.7.
    Best wishes for your hubby.
