No Port in the cards

They gave Bob a 12 pack of plts to see what they would do and they did not budge, His body is just eating them up. His plts were 31 and they stayed at 31. So It seems he will have to continue the vidaza with the shots until he runs our of spots. His arms are so bad from the Transfusion IV’s this increased vidaza is knocking his counts now each month he needs rbc. Today his count was 7.8 on the hgb so they transfused two units. Just can’t take a chance for a port a 31. Pic line our dr says is too temporary 6 weeks max and will make his veins worse.

Is his spleen getting enlarged again? That would coincide with platelets being absorbed so fast.

Hi Carl, No the spleen is not enlarged, It is not back to what it was, actually when they radiated it wasn’t as big as some are but they took a shot with that to try and help with the plt problem. It is just his marrow is so packed that the bad cells are crowding out the good cells faster then it used to. That is what the last bmb showed. His blast are still under control

I’m really sorry to hear this Terri. You and Bob must be so disappointed. What number of platelets are essential for the surgery? I’m glad that the blasts are under control. Hang in there.

can’t get his plts beyond 35 they wanted around 70-80 minimum

Terri, don’t laugh but fresh pinapple raised my PLTs. Also noticed that they were higher when on prednisone for another problem.
