When I had trouble with mouth sores I tried two different recipes that both gave some relief. They were given to me by Dr. Ramona Chapman hematologist/oncologist, formerly of Walter Reed Hospital and Chapman Cancer Center. She also studied at Oxford.
The Sparkling Soda recipe for Mouth Wash Is:
Add 2 heaping teaspoons of table salt and 1 heaping teaspoon of baking soda to 1 quart of water.
Use 1 tablespoon of solution , swish in mouth ,gargle and spit out. Repeat 2 times. Do this 4 times a day, 1 hour after each meal and at bedtime.
With the sparkling soda I was given a prescription for mycostatin.
The second recipe was for Mouth Care
1) Rinse and gargle with a 1 to 1 solution of peroxide and water. Mix just before use. Do this 4 times a day after each meal and at bedtime.
2)Follow with a warm saline rinse and gargle 1 teaspoon salt to 4 oz. of water. Do this 4 times a day after each meal and at bedtime.
I use the Mouth Care recipe whenever I get the first sore in my mouth. If more show up I use the sparkling soda and see if the doctor wants to give me a prescription. I haven’t had to use either for years, but when I needed it they were a godsend. Lindajo
