Father (78) Dx Jan. ’04 Pulmonary Fibrosis – Prednisone, July ’04 CMML – Hydrox., Thalidomide, VidazaKathrynMemberCarrie, thanks for the link. My father’s appetite has been next to nothing for a while now and I will definitely check it out.
I hope the doc. gives him some good news and I will keep him in my prayers.
Take care,
Kathryn
KathrynMemberHi, my father was on 400mg, but started chemo on Monday. It wasn’t working as well as needed. The doctor also wants him to try an experimental drug that is to possibly become available in May.
I was wondering if there are any side effect of coming off of the Thalidomide like sleeplessness. My father has hardly slept since Monday. On Monday he didn’t sleep at all and on Tuesday only a couple of hours.
I am wishing you both the best, for you and your mother, Andrew & for you, Carl.
Take care,
Kathryn
KathrynMemberHey Terri,
prior to his inujections he does get an IV w/ anti-ausea med., but I am not sure what it is. He tried to get the pills, but ins. wouldn’t cover it.I’ll definitely check out the earlier posts for info..
Did the doc. tell your husband what vitamins & supplements to take? My friend told me about a juice called Mangosteen. It is supposed to be very high in antioxidants. I thought about getting some for my dad, but wasn’t sure how well it would work during chemo. Do you have any nutritional suggestions? I know that they have to be cleared by the doc., but I could at east give my dad the info..
Thanks & best wishes to you and your husband,
Kathryn
KathrynMemberHey, I can’t tell you guys how much I appreciate your input. My prayers go out to you and your fathers.
We live in Atlanta, GA and my father is receiving his care here. He conveniently lives right down the street from the hospitals & doctors.
He had a little bit more energy this a.m. and his appointment is after lunch. We will see what the doc. says about his sinus infection and sore throat. From what they said before, that would have no bearing on his treatment. He will also be receiving IV anti-nausea med. prior to getting the injection. I think the doc. was expecting him to be a lot better since he has been on the antibiotic, etc. though.
I am really nervous and am so thankful to have some people to turn to for support. I’ll keep you posted.
Hope your day is a lovely one,
Kathryn
KathrynMemberKathy,
thank you so much for your reply.
I believe you are right. I looked at some info. on Vidaza and it sounds like what he will be getting. His injection site is to be in the back of his upper arm and he will receive an anti-nausea med. beforehand.
Do you know of anything I can suggest to him that might ease his discomfort?
Kathryn
