Lisa, thanks for your thoughts…
Janet said it perfectly, “I MUST do my best to go on living well because I would be letting them down otherwise.” There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about my dad, who he was and what a wonderful and positive influence he was, not only on my life, but on others that he touched… I just try not to go “there”… It has been a huge loss. My daughter had knee surgery the day before Thanksgiving… She cried for her Granddaddy when she woke up. It was heartbreaking because he’s been there for every surgery. We went by his grave after we left the surgery center and it really hit home with her that he was gone. Quite sad…. Aside from that we talk about him being on a beautiful holiday at the beach… A survival tool…
When I read the posts on this board, it really makes my heart ache… Though for a short time, I was there, and as they say, “hind sight is 20/20″… This board was such a huge support to me and I will do what I can to give back…
How is your father doing? I hope that things are looking up.
Take good care… I’m sending positive thoughts your way.

KathrynMemberHi Lisa, my father was on Thalidomide & Vidaza. When that began to be less effective, the doctor switched him to Trisonex. There was a period where he was still getting some residual effects from the Vidaza. Apparently it is commonly used for elder patients when there is no other alternative. He was doing alright on that… When you read about it, I suppose as with any medicine, it can be a little worrisome, but he never had any severe reactions on it.
Best wishes to you and yours,
Kathryn
KathrynMemberCaroline, you and your dad are in my prayers. I know how draining that rollercoaster can be. Keep the faith. In regards to your job, it is interesting how things work out….. We had plans of moving back to Florida…Had my house sold, I would have moved and missed out on some very valuable time w/ my father…. Sometimes blessing are in disguise!
Take care,
Kathryn
KathrynMemberTerri, I have been thinking of you and Bob so much lately. I hope that he is doing better. You take such good care of him and that is such a blessing. I hope that you too are hanging in there okay.
I am wishing you & yours a wonderful Thanksgiving.
With love and prayers,
Kathryn
KathrynMemberRobin, I am so sorry for your loss… I am wishing you peace.

KathrynMemberHey Margaret, my father was on Vidaza w/ heart issues – congestive heart disease, thickened arteries. He didn’t have any real problems though while he was on it… at most, irregular heart beats….
Please feel free to ask any questions. I will answer as best I can.
Kathryn
KathrynMemberHappy Thanksgiving to you too!

KathrynMemberEllie, my cousin lives in Fort Myers near Sanibel Island. She said that Wilma was worse than Charley because the wind was so bad. Her home only had some landscaping & siding damage though, so they are counting their blessings. She said that overall the city held up okay. Part of the problem w/ her location is that Sanibel and the barrier islands lost a lot of their vegetation to Charley, so there isn’t as much protection. I read that power there could be out for a couple of weeks. I haven’t heard or read anything about Pine Island, so hopefully they fared well. We were looking at moving to Bokeelia/ Pine Island or Sanibel if our house here had sold. After Katrina we were having second thoughts anyway…
I have been thinking about Terri & Kate and praying for their safety. I’m looking forward to seeing their posts!
Best wishes,
Kathryn
KathrynMemberHi Terri, I am so glad to hear that the doc. gave you guys some good news!!
I’m thinking about you both & wishing you safety through the upcoming storm.
Kathryn
KathrynMemberCaroline,
you are an angel. I’m glad that you have made such an effort to be involved regardless of the opposition. My sister and I weren’t “allowed” and having someone to advocate is vitally important. I’m so sorry that both of your parents so ill.
Seems that there are very few “outsiders” who will listen. Besides a dear friend whose mother has lung cancer, this forum has been a Godsend!
You know that we are here for you always… We all have big ears & large shoulders!
Love,
Kathryn
KathrynMemberWow, that is so great Terri!! You go girl!!! We signed up at the last minute, but next year we are planning to creat a team -“Team Ace”- and do it right. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect. I hope that yours is as well. The support is definitely a beautiful thing.
Best wishes & love to you,
Kathryn
KathrynMemberOh Dee, I too am sooooo glad you went in. Good for you! I hope you are feeling better.
