Nadine…I guess that is the problem because his left foot and ankle is pretty swollen. Thanks, no one here knew what caused the swelling.

Thanks for the suggestion of using Triamcinolone cream. He’s in the hospital now…got 8 bags of platelets Tuesday and 8 bags Wednesday. He’s never needed any more than 2 bags at a time before. This seems like a lot! After the platelets, the itching has stopped for one day so far. Maybe itching was related to lack of platelets?

Sarah…the doctor says to take Benadryl every 8 hours. We may have to go back to Duke soon. They called last night and said he might have the virus that a lot of people get after a transplant. He has lots of congestion, no appetite and is getting very weak. He just got antibiotics yesterday, so he asked to give him one more day on the antibiotics. He’s afraid if he goes back up there, he’ll have to stay for a while. This doctor in Columbia is faxing everything to Dr. Horwictz in Durham. Thanks for your answers. I’ll buy the lotion and Aveeno today.

Ron has had these headaches off and on since 2/04.
The CMML had affected his eyesight greatly, also. We’re hoping once the white count gets to near normal that the headaches and the bad eyesight might taper off.

Hi Carrie…my friend had very low counts all the way around and he got Vidaza shots for a week every month and didn’t stop the shots until he went for a BMT in February.

My friend had a BMT done March 21 and 22 of this year. He is already talking about coming home in 45 days! There were some extremely low points during this and I wondered if he was going to make it. But he is so happy he went through it now! Just hang in there and good luck!

Hi…My best friend, age 65, CMML, 1st symptoms were summer of ’03. Went to Dr and diagnosed 2/04, tried Gleevac, Vidaza, Hydrea. Now doing chemo and will have a BMT At Duke Univ. in Durham 3/21 & 3/22/05. No one ever mentioned to us how long to expect him to live. But, he was in very bad shape by the time we got to Durham, the first time in 12/04. He was very feeble and in extreme pain w/his spleen.

My friend skipped Sat & Sun during the last three sessions and it didn’t make any difference in his blood work.

Marsha…Did you take chemotherapy for a couple of weeks before the BMT? If you did, how long did the chemo last? Was radiation part of it? What is a CMV virus? I’m sorry I don’t mean to bombard you with questions. We’re all pulling for you! You sound good! Hang in there!
