hi lynne
i looked back on my dad’s records and as far as i can see the highest dose he ever got was 60,000 per week (given on the same day)
also i think (not 100% sure) that they will not give procrit once the hgb goes above 12
good luck

my dad was never given more than 2 units at a time – after the 2 units they would give the blood time to settle in do a cbc and see if he needs more blood – the only time he needed more than 2 units was when he was hospitalized with an infection – at that time he got 4 units, but it was spaced over 2 1/2 days

eveMemberoops
if you have any other questions is what i meant to say
eveMemberhi zeke
my father occasionally had blood in his urine – sometimes it was caused by a urinary tract infection and sometimes it was caused by kidney stones – dad was on vidaza and it really helped keep his transfusion needs to a minimum
if you have another questions i can help you with feel free to contact me
good luck
eveeveMemberwhenever my dad had an infection and was hospitalized he always needed several rbc txs until they got his blood to a safe level – i would be more concerned with the infections than the number of txs needed
good luck

please, please have it checked out asap – things can get out of control very quickly with mds patients as i saw with my dad
at 103 i would have had my dad in the emergency room
the motrin is just masking any symptoms – please don’t wait
good luck

my dad never experienced any nausea – took anti nausea meds 1 hour after treatment as prescribed by his doctor
he probably would have been able to drive himself, but i went to every treatment with him-
the worst side effect he had was constipation – and that was from the anti nausea medication – he found out by trial and error that he could take less to the med and get the same results and doing that really helped – he also took some stool softeners and occasionally a laxative –call me if you wish to talk and get any other info
good luck
