Jack, Sorry I gave some bad advice. You’re right those on chemo do need to be more careful, and do need to check with their Dr. in regard to what is acceptable in their diets. Even as to raw fruit and vegetables which should be throughly washed before peeling, if the Dr. approves eating them. That go’es for juicing also. I guess almost all foods make a difference when one is on chemo, anything that might contain bacteria or fungus, rare meats etc.
Zoe perhaps eating shellfish only applies to those on chemo as well?gemloyearMemberRuss & all,
People with a compromised immune system should not eat raw shell fish, cooked is fine as long as one is not allergic. Yogurt is a healthy food. Many antibiotics destroy the natural intestinal flora which can be replaced by probiotics.Bananas also help with this.Swishing yogurt in the mouth helps with fungal infections.
When the search engine is restored one will be able to find many references for treatments with yogurt products. Good luck everyone.
ElliegemloyearMemberThanks Barb, a very happy New Year to you and your family.
ElliegemloyearMemberHi Eve, How were you able to get on? I haven’t been able to get on since 12/20. I spent 2 hrs. last night trying, I still am not sure how I did it. I noticed that there were only about 5 people posting. I wish the admin. would inform us on how to get into the new site. I guess I’m not very computer literate but I am persistant.
Thanks and Happy New Year,ElliegemloyearMemberIra, Yes you are amazing ! I’m sure that your experience is giving many others hope. The trial that you have undergone seems truly amazing. I’m praying for further great results, and good health for you. Peace and happiness to you in the New year.
God Bless, ElliegemloyearMemberSandy, I am so sorry to read of Mike’s passing. You both fought a couragous battle. Thank you for the beautiful verse and all of your work in arousing the need for funding for research.
God Bless, ElliegemloyearMemberDear Linda, My sincere sympathy and prayers to you and your family on the loss of your Mom. Yes she is an angel watching over all of you.
God Bless, ElliegemloyearMemberNoah’s Dad, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your father. I lost my husband one year ago to this terrible disease, and am just starting to come to terms of the reality of this. We also lost a daughter to CF long ago. I believe there is hope for the children who are dx with this at the present time. If you would like to talk with me about Noah you can contact me by e-mail or on the forum when things have settled down for you.
Love to Noah and prayers for your family.
take care,ElliegemloyearMemberKatie, I’m sorry to hear that your Dad has relapsed. I will pray that he will improve on the dacogen.Be sure that he takes every precaution to guard against the Legionaires. My husband had it, and it was a tough battle. Wishing your Dad the best.
Take care, ElliegemloyearMemberHi Suzanne, I too have been thinking of you and praying that you are still in remission. Please let us know how you respond to the revlimid. The longer you can hold off on the transplant the better. It seems that research is making advances right along with new trials and chemos.I’ll pray that you will do well with what ever you may try to beat this darn disease.
All the best,ElliegemloyearMemberNeil, I was so sorry to read of your recent hospital stay, and am so glad that you are now at home. Glen had a squamus cell carcinoma on his ear, however it didn’t get as far as yours, fortunately we noticed it growing larger. He was referred to a plastic surgeon who removed it.Loped his ear off a little shorter than the other, for another $1500.00 the doc would have shortened the other ear to make them equal. Glen said “no thanks”. Our PC doc was very good about carefully checking for skin lesions during his physicals. I will be praying for a speedy recovery for you,you know that we all need you here on the forum. My computer burned out a few weeks ago so I won’t be on the forum for awhile. My daughter brought her company computer to my home to do her work while she’s visiting here from Sartel. Hopefully I may use it occasionally until I replace mine. I wish you and your family all the best.during this holiday season.
Take good care,ElliegemloyearMemberJen, Has your Dad had a BMB recently? AML is dx by the blast count in the bone marrow and the blood. The red spots(purplish) most likely are petecchia due to low platelets. My husband was full of petecchia when first dx with low platelets (thrombocytopenia). Blood clots cause a lot of pain but they are usually isolated to certain areas of the body. You should inform the Dr. as to how much pain he is in. Depending on what is causing his pain, sometimes prednisone helps and or opiates ie.oxycondone,or fenytanol. These are meds that helped my husband in the last years of his life.At least he was made more comfortable. We tried supplements, herbs and vitamins with little results. At this point I doubt that any self help remedies will alleviate the pain.I will pray that the Drs. will help him find some relief and comfort from his pain. By the way my husband signed papers at each Drs. office allowing them to give me information in person and via telephone regarding his current treatment and condition.Very soon your Dad will need you to advocate for him. God Bless.
Take care ElliegemloyearMemberPigduck,
My sincere condolences to you and your family. Your Dad is now at peace, God Bless You.
