Hi lindajo, My husband did have his spleen removed in May 2003. He had severe ITP, and dr’s thought that the spleen was destroying his platelets. He was also taking high doses of NASAIDS at the time for rheumatoid arthritis which also destroys platelets. The cause of the ITP.was never determined The spleen appeared to be normal after it was removed, nothing unusual about it.The only criteria seemed to be the blood counts, it was thought that removing the spleen might fix the platelets, that didn’t happen. He went down hill very quickly after that surgery. He had a brain bleed soon after( stroke like symptoms). And was dx with MDS in Sept. I would think long and hard before considering splenectomy. It’s a major and very painful surgery. Terri’s husband had radiation treatments for enlarged spleen, which seemed to help.

Hi Jack, Yes the Drs. usually give platelet and blood tx’s as needed when surgery is required. Your hematologist should co-ordinate with the surgeon and most likely will be approved. My husband had severe ITP with platelets at approx. 30,000 and needed a splenectomy. He was given tx of platelets and ir.and filtered blood before the surgery. He did have a double hernia surgery a few years prior to that before the dx of ITP & MDS,(only anemic). That was uneventfull but very painfull. Tip, get yourself some tie waist sweat pants. Good luck on Thursday, I hope things go well for you.

Hi Bety,Our pharmacy has bracelets without ingraving and also order forms for a company that sells bracelets with ingraving to order. This is a Shopko Pharmacy, there must be others that take orders also. Is Ed diabetic? I didn’t realize insulin was used unless one is a diabetic.
Google nosebleeds and you will find some very informative info there. I too have dizzy spells from BP meds, usually when my Bp gets too low. My husband had severe nosebleeds also but for some reason they pretty much stopped. Possibly when he started having txs. Glen had a pretty young lady Dr. who could coax him into taking any treatment needed, when I could not. I hope Ed is Doing better.
    Take care Ellie

Hi Liz, My husband never took Revlimid, but on more than one occasion he developed terribly itchy rashes. I guess it goes with the territory of having a lowered immune system. The Dr. referred him to a dermatologist who prescribed triamcinolone acetonide cream 0.1%, this worked great. Later for yet another rash he was given a higher dose of o.5% . I have also used this in a lotion form. Both formulas worked well. You should really consult with your Dr. re: your rash, especially due to the fact that you are prone to psorasis. There are other serious rashes that are common to Mds & leukemia patients so best to be on the safe side. Good luck with clearing up your itch, they can really be a pain.Takecare,
    Ellie
