    Hi Vance and Ruby!

So glad to hear that Ruby’s doing well!

I would love to hear more about the procedure with cord blood as my mom is meeting with a bone marrow transplant team next month.

Thanks for posting and welcome back! Jody

    Hi Christina,

To diagnose fungal infection in the lungs a bronch wash (or bronchial lavage)- bronchial tubes of the lung are repeatedly washed with water to obtain a good sample to culture, or a biopsy of the lung are performed.

    Treatment –
amphotericin B (Fungizone) is the first-line therapy. For patients who do not respond to oral amphotericin B, another option is a different formulation of the same drug called liposomal amphotericin B.

For patients who fail to respond or who cannot tolerate amphotericin B, another drug called itraconazole (Sporanox)is given daily. Treatment generally lasts about 3 months.

Hope your dad feels better soon.
    Take care, Jody

    Hi Eve,

Your Dad’s white count is slightly high, possibly because of his infection. I’m not sure how long it takes for the wbc’s to come down after an infection. The neutrophils are elevated possibly in response to the infection?? I’m not too sure about what would cause the lymphs to drop…how have they been running before he was sick? sorry, I’m not very helpful..how’s he feeling now?

    take care, Jody
