Hi April,
I work in microbiology and know a little about septicemia. Your mom must have had blood cultures drawn that are growing bacteria – ie. she has a bacterial infection that is in her bloodstream. If her leg is swollen and warm it’s possible that the infection originated there. They probably are also doing cultures on her leg, and it will probably show the same bacteria. If they don’t know what bacteria is growing yet they probably have her on a broad-spectrum antiobiotic and will monitor her fever. The organism identification and sensitivity results should be available within 24 hours of the cultures going ‘positive’ so the doctor’s will know if the antibiotic is fully effective.I hope your mom feels better soon April! Jody

shirlsgirlMemberSad,
Is there alot of fluid? What is the reason for not draining the fluid when it was ‘a go’ for Monday? …frustrating….if they are going to change their minds, you’d think they’d give details or reasons why. Is it possible to e-mail or speak to your dad’s hemo doc before his appointment….maybe he/she could get access to these results and explain what’s going on? Good luck! Jody

Thanks for keeping us updated. Take care, JodyshirlsgirlMemberHi Edith,
My mom was also diagnosed with CMML in October…how are you feeling? Do you know the results of the cytogenetics testing? How do you find the wait times? We live in hamilton, ontario and are finding the wait times trying. We met with the hem. doctor in mid November and we were told they were going to set up an appointment with the bone marrow transplant team at McMaster University Medical Centre…but the appointment still hasn’t been set up and we are getting anxious. Her doctor was also setting up a meeting with local leukemia specialists to discuss her case, which is awesome, but still hasn’t happened.I just wish everything moved faster.
You will find many wonderful and supportive people on this website. I’m so sorry you have to fight this terrible disease. Take care, JodyshirlsgirlMemberWooohooo!! Congratulations Carrie!! Keep us updated on your Dad and have a happy healthy New Year! Jody
