Pat LawsonParticipant
So glad to hear your dad is doing ok. My husband is 64 and in a trial. We are still on the fence about even talking to the doctors about a transplant. Please keep us updated on his progress. Praying for strength and healing.
Pat LawsonParticipantJason God bless you for being such a good and loving son. It is so hard to watch how this disease takes over our loved ones. My husband was diagnosed with high risk mds with excess blasts in October 2018 and it breaks my heart to see him struggle each day to be the man he used to be. I know he worries about not being able to do all that he used to because he feels that he has no purpose in life anymore. I know it’s selfish but to me I am just happy to wake up and still have him here with me. I worry like your mom about how I will go on without him but I know that I have my kids and grandkids to keep me going. right now I don’t really think much about what the future holds because if I did I wouldn’t be strong enough to help my husband at his greatest time of need. Live life one day at time and know that you are doing the best you can for your dad and your mom. May God bless you and your family, treasure every minute that you have together and know that you are carrying on your father’s legacy and your mom will see him in your eyes and have reason to live on.

My husband is in a trial for high risk MDS and we have told the doctors we are on the fence about doing the transplant for the exact reasons you stated. Can you please tell me where to find the article about relapse rates based on mutations? I have found a couple online and they mentioned 2 of the 4 mutations that my husband has that do not have good outcomes.
Pat LawsonParticipantSo glad to hear that! Praying for strength in the coming days. Keep us posted
Pat LawsonParticipantJoseph thinking about you and your dad and praying all goes well tomorrow.
Pat LawsonParticipantYour father is blessed to have a son like you. Know that you are doing everything that you could possibly do. I pray that all goes well and in the end it is God’s will. Let go and let God. I pray for peace for both if you.
Pat LawsonParticipantJoseph, you, your dad and all your family are in my prayers. My husband 64 years old was diagnosed with high risk mds at the end of October. He entered a trial at Univ of MD hospital in Baltimore. It was a little rough in the beginning but he just finished his 3rd round and his blood counts are looking good and his blasts are decreasing. If it is determined he can’t do the bmt please look into trials. We have so much available to us living in the DMV. God Bless and keep us posted on your dad.
Pat LawsonParticipantPaul how are you doing since your transplant? My husband is in a trial taking vidaza and ventaclax and he is doing really good. The doc is pushing for him to do a transplant if his blasts keep dropping but we are on the fence due to the risks.
Pat LawsonParticipantDear Shelley
My husband was diagnosed with high risk mds in October. He has had 3 opinions. All were the same diagnosis. They said if he did not receive treatment he would have 4 to 6 months to live. He is only 64 years old so no treatment was not an option for us. He decided to go into a clinical trial and we just got home from his first day of treatment. So far he is not having any side effects. We are hoping this will be the miracle we have been praying for. All we can do now is let go and let God. I pray for strength and comfort for all that are dealing with this disease.Pat LawsonParticipantThe following are my husband’s numbers before his transfusion today.
White blood count 1.9
Red blood count 1.98
Hemoglobin 6.4 this is what was down to 4.7 when I got home to the hospital
Hematocrit 19.6
Platelets 109
I’m not sure what the next # is you were asking about if it’s the neutrophils relative it’s 36.6Hope this helps,
PatPat LawsonParticipantMy husband ended up in the hospital late October. He had trouble breathing, weakness, swollen ankles and feet and pale skin. He is 64 and always very active. By the time I talked him into going to the hospital they discovered his red blood count was only 4.7 and it should have been 13. His white blood count and platelets were low also. They had to give him 4 bags of blood. He had a bone marrow biopsy and was diagnosed with mds with excess blasts. We are currently going through screenings at our local hospital and at John’s Hopkins to see if he is a candidate for a clinical trial. He has only been out of the hospital 2 weeks and he already has to go back tomorrow for another transfusion. In hind sight my husband looks back now saying he has been feeling tired since last spring. See if any of the doctors or centers mentioned on this website are near you and if so go to them. Please don’t let him wait. The sooner you find out what is going on with him the longer you may have him in your life.
God bless you and your husband, Pat Lawson -
