Hello everyone. Well, my diagnosis has changed since the last time you heard from me (last week).

I received news on Tuesday from my oncologist that I have Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). I don’t know yet what my treatment will be. I find out
on today when I meet with the specialist (Dr. Stephen Gore) at Johns Hopkins. At my appointment today, they will take blood samples and if they are dangerously low I will be admitted mmediately.

I am scared and pretty upset that I have to go through more chemo (more intense than my breast cancer chemo) and lose my hair all over again, but I have to do what I have to do. I need to be here for my 4 year old daughter and my family.

Please pray for me. Pray that I make it through chemo, and that I have a quick and full remission…forever.

Jen I transferred to AML in Jan. Had induction of chemo…Ara-C for 7 days contineous and danorubicin…three doses of that the first three days. I never got sick once. Right now Im having the same two meds at home as a “consolidation” to hold me till another donor is found for SCT. I hope you will be as lucky as me and not get sick. According to last BMB done the end of Feb I only had 3% blasts but still showed a few MdS changes in some cells, but have felt great. Counts all up in normal limits and have so much energy. This will not last when my counts all drop due to this bag Im carrying on my side for 5 days..will have to go back to transfusions ect till counts go up again. Sorry about your transfer to AML…….good luck with your treatment

Jen, good luck to you. I too did not get sick from the leukemia chemo. Had a few minor problems that were taken care of immediately. As I have told you before. You are in good hands a Hopkins-much better then a local Hemo. I will be in the clinic April 1 for a BMB and probably every 2 weeks after that for counts.Let me know if you are there and want company.

Jennifer, My thoughts are with you on your journey for recovery. You have to get better really fast, your little girl needs you. My husband got the same cemo, didn’t get sick at all. It didn’t help him as much as was hoped , but he is much better than before the treatment. He is 71 and was in very bad condition before the treatment. You are young , and have a lot more chance for full recovery. Best wishes Kate
