Patient
My MDS experience is not all that remarkable. But what is noteworthy has been my approach to treatment.
From the beginning, I decided to take a very assertive and proactive approach to everything; from gathering information about the disease and possible treatments, to choosing a care team to dealing with all complications.
Learning everything about MDS was essential in eliminating mystery and providing comfort as we moved forth.
There were several different treatment options available and understanding them was helpful in being able to have meaningful dialogue with care providers.
Lastly, carefully researching oncologists and several other medical specialists allowed for me to choose the ones with whom I felt most comfortable and the ones who would include me as an equal member of the care team.
All of this was crucial in order to move forward with confidence and with a positive attitude.
It has been a rollercoaster ride of just over 5 years. Along with my care team, we successfully met every challenge together, and in concert as a unified team to overcome everything that cropped up.
I have every confidence that we will continue to function this way and address whatever the future holds.
