After 16 years of living with Harry Cell leukemia my doctor says I am showing signs of MDS. He wants to put me on Azacitidine which is an infusion but I understand that the oral drug Inqovi has the same results. I would appreciate hearing from anybody who has tried either drug, side effects, and results. Thanks!

I received infusions of Vidaza and Decitabine (Azacitidine) for two years via a port. A year ago I started receiving Inqovi. I’ve done well on the Inqovi and it’s so much easier than going to an infusion lab for 5-7 days a month. If you have the choice, go with Inqovi! I receive my Inqovi from CVS Specialty Pharmacy.

I did eleven rounds of Inqovi in pill form. Minimal side effects – primarily a little nausea. You need to take it on an empty stomach two hours before or after a meal. Also, you are required to drink a lot of liquid to prevent kidney or liver damage. Unfortunately, coffee and soda don’t count. I drank Gatorade, vitamin water, and used the Liquid IV in 18 ounces of water.

Thanks for the info.. Did you have any side effects with either drug?

I had no side affects from Inqovi from a physical standpoint. It did drop all my numbers to critical lows. I have taken 5 cycles and am trying to decide if I want to take another round.
