Has anyone experienced enterocolitis (infection of the small and large intestine) while on HMAs?

My husband came down with it for the second time in 5 months this week and we and the doctors are perplexed. It is not a typiclal side effect of HMAs and he doesn’t “fit” the typical profile b/c he has not been neutropenic either time he has gotten it. The first time he was hospitalized; this time he was treated in the clinic as the hospital was full. Fortunately it has come on in the last couple of days of his cycle when his counts are their highest. With sleep, stomach rest (clear liquids and bland food), and antibiotics he should be well in a couple of weeks, but we know this can be much more difficult when your counts are low. We are wondering if anyone else has struggled with this and if this is going to be an ongoing struggle. Thanks in advance for sharing. God bless you.
