My dad was diagnosed with MDS this year at 53. He’s had progressive symptoms over the past 1.5-2 years leading to the diagnosis. He has aquired a third 21st chromosome and his platelet levels stay between 10-30k most of the time. For the past year at least he has had a fairly severe cough. Most of the time he can hardly get out a sentence with out breaking out in cough spree. He has been to a ear nose and throat and a lung specialist. Neither could find any causes through multiple tests. Hematologist says could be a issue with the MDS. If anyone has any similar experience please share. It’s one thing dealing with the MDS itself but he can’t do anything without coughing.

He does not cough up any mucus or blood.

Sometimes a constant (non productive — i.e., no mucus or blood) can be caused by acid reflux. Check with his doctor to see if trying a protein pump inhibitor (PPI) drug might work — something like prescription Prilosec, or Pantoprazole.
