I had GBS and pretty much recovered from it in 1996. I am now 87 and have recently been diagnosed with MDS. Since they are both very rare anti-immune syndromes I thought there might be some tie in. Any ideas?

Hi James, Thank you for your question. There is no connection with MDS and Guillain Barre Syndrome.

My husband had GBS 18 months ago and was just diagnosed with MDS 2 days ago. He is 58 and was in good health until the GBS.

Hi Kathy, Besides this post I,ve asked the doctor at the San Diego MDS Foundation Center for Excellence if there is any link between the two syndromes. He has the same answer as the moderator, that there is no tie in. It seems strange that we would end up with two syndromes that are each in the 1 in 50,000 people range. I was diagnosed with MDS EB-2 about three months ago but have not started treatment yet.
