The nation wide blood shortage is causing a restriction on blood transfusions in our area. The local protocols say hemoglobin levels have to be at 7 before Cancer patients can be transfused if they are stable. What is considered stable seems to be subjective.
I function much better when my hemoglobin is above 8.5. I also have pulmonary hypertension and high output heart failure when the hemoglobin gets low. Is anyone else seeing this restriction on blood?

I have MDS-RS and am scheduled to begin Lusteracept next week and am currently transfusion dependent.

No trouble in Florida so far getting blood. My husband did
Luspatercept And it worked well for about 6 months and then stopped working. Transfusions now weekly platelets and red blood cells. He is going to get a stem cell transplant if he stays healthy in a couple of weeks…by healthy I mean no infections. Good luck!
