Hi all. I am asking a question for my mom Alice who has MDS. She said her red and white cell counts were responding to procrit, but now after 4 weeks of treatment they have dropped slightly. Is this normal?

Nancy & Alice; I don’t know what is normal with MDS. All I can tell you is that Don has been on Aranesp, rather than Procrit, but still an EPO, and his hgb readings fluctuate with each blood draw which is generally once a month. You say they have dropped slightly. What is "slightly" to you? Don will have a reading of 9.7 one time, 9.8 the next, then 101, back to 9.8. We, and the doctor, don’t get to concerned with those fluctuations, which I call slight. Those numbers I gave were actual ones from last fall. Since March they have been 9.1, 9.4, 9.2. So they do vary. Hope that helps a little. Best advice is to ask the doctor. I see your mother has just been diagnosed. The early months are always scary as you don’t know what to expect. Don has been living with MDS for over 3 years now. It is doable. Good luck!. Joan
