    Hi Kiltie,

My Hemotologist is Dr. Lee. I had a bone marrow biospy on Nov. 18/10.

My husband and I met with Dr. Lee on Dec. 9/10 to go over the results of the bone marrow.

He explained that he had to converse with a team of Hemotologist because he was quit sure. They stated that it looks like it is leaning towards the makings of MDS, but there wasn’t anything to do right now as far as treatments. Just wait and see.

My counts are not low enough, so he wants to see me in 6 mths. There still is the cytogenics results to come back, and I guess that will determine where things are at.

I’ve been dealing with low blood counts since 2000 and think even longer then that. I had a bone marrow done back then, but was never diagnosed with MDS, so I just kept getting my bloodwork done every 6 mths.

It wasn’t until this Fall that they started to drop.

I know how you feel about being afraid, I am too, but I have read that may people can live long and happy lives with MDS, and they have certaily come a long way since 2000 with treatments and clinical trials.

It’s nice to know that there is someone else that lives in Kingston, it’s just unfortunate under these circumstances.

    Take Care.

    Hi lindajo,

I’m new to the forum. I’ve had low blood counts since 2001. I had a bone marrow biopsy back then and they didn’t diagnose me with anything at that time. My hematologist thought I might have liver disease or possibly MDS. Liver Disease was ruled out, but I still didn’t have the symptoms of MDS, other then low blood counts. Since 2003 I have been seeing a Naturopath and I also have been taking vitamins and B12 shots as well.

Could you please tell me what you have been taking regarding you vitamins and what your counts are for red/white, platlets and hemoglobin. I am really worried as my counts are starting to drop and after 9yrs I have to go back to see my hematologist, I’m really hoping that things are still stable and it hasn’t gone into MDS yet.

Although I see you have been doing wonderfully on the vitamins and B12 shots for quite some time, that is fabulous. My Name is Smurf.

    Hi Kiltie,

I know how you feel about being afraid, I am too.

I also live in Kington, Ontario and I deal with a hematologist who works at the Kingston General Hospital was well.

I went for blood work back in 2001 and it was notice then that my counts were low, so they decided to do a bone marrow biospy, which it came back alright, but they alluded to the fact that it could someday go into MDS.

I have since be referred back to my hematologist as my counts have dropped lower then usual, so my GP is just airing on the side of caution. I’m hoping everything will continue to stay stable, because I’m not sure about treatments for this disease.

It’s nice to know that there is someone right in the same city, mostly everyone on her are in the States or UK.

That’s fantastic. I use alot of vitamins and I receive B12 shots every week. I haven’t be actually diagnose with MDS yet.

Back in 2001 I had blood work done and my counts were low, so my GP sent me to an Hematolgist and I had a bone marrow biospy, and it came back okay. The Hematolgist stated that it could be MDS in years to come. Well just recently my counts have drop so I am being referred back to the Hematolgist. I’m just hoping everything is still okay.

    What are your counts?
