Carol WardParticipant
I have MDS and had a total hip replacement. I did have to have a blood transfusion after but at least I could walk again without a walker. Depends on how bad your hip is and if you have a lot of pain.
Carol WardParticipantI think with MDS you need a second opinion. I was diagnosed in 2016 with MDS. My problem
Was very low platelet count. My red and white cells have been normal over the years. I need to have a hip replacement surgery so my doctor had me come in for a trial platelet transfusion twice and it did nothing to raise my count. I then was put on a steroid and my count shot up. Now I am told I have ITP. When I asked about MDS. my oncologist said well it’s the ITP part of the MDS that is responding to the steroid. How I read it ITP is a separate disease. I don’t think they really understand this disease themselves. They say 40% of people diagnosed with MDS is a mistaken diagnosis for other diseases.Carol WardParticipantCan I ask you what dosage you took. I am on 25mg twice a day. My concern is i take antidepressants however the doctor told me it would not interfere. I am only on them for 2 months. Thank you for letting me know it didn’t help with arthritis.
Carol WardParticipantI am sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. At least she is at peace. Your sister probably knew she was not going to make it that is why she stopped treatment probably. I hope all the wonderful memories you have of your mother help you during your time of grief.
Carol WardParticipantI am sorry to hear that.
Carol WardParticipantI wonder why they don’t try to match your platelets properly the first time. I
Waited so long to get the bag of platelets in the hospital 6 hrs and then they didn’t raise up my platelets. I was on rounds if IV antibiotics from sn abscess on my colon and I think the antibiotics lowered my platelets from 40 to 2o.Carol WardParticipantThank you. I will check into that. Did you ever get your surgery.
