    Hi Lynette:

No, Jim hasn’t been on anything yet. He will have another blood test on the 15th of March and then see the dr. on the 22nd. I hope she will do something, but I am worried that if she does anything it might not be the right thing at this time. Jim has a bad heart and many other things are wrong with him. But I guess we will just wait and see.

As for Medicare. Jim has Medicare plus United Health that we pay for. I am sure he will be covered for any kind of treatment. We pay 200.00 a month for his coverage. I am on a HMO.

    Thanks

    Fran

    Hi again:

It seems that all Jim wants to do now is sleep. I am getting pretty worried that his anemic condition is getting worst.

My daughter keeps asking why the Oncologist hasn’t started him on anything yet. She looked up MDS and she said that all the information said he should be on some kind of Chemo. But so far it has been over 1 year since he was told that he had MDS.

    Any other information would help.

Thanks to you all for caring.

    Hi g-masews:

Thank you for your encouragement regarding my husbnad. He seems to feel pretty good now. His next blood test will be on the 15th of March and then he see’s the Onc. on the 22nd. We are taking one day at a time and as long as he feels ok, we are doing nothing. I just hope that when he has the bone marrow bioposy in April that his blasts doesn’t go up.

We will hand in there for now.

    Hi Eve:

I think you misunderstood me. Jim has 10% blast in his Bone Marrow and 1% in his blood with abnormal chromosome 8. Jim aslo has a bad heart and is Diabetic. So all those things are just added to his MDS.

The Oncologist will take another BMB in April I think to see what his bone marrow is doing now. The last test was taken in Augus/05.

Anyway, that is where we are at this time.

Well, I will try again. Jim said that the Onc. told him that he has 1% blast in his blood. I have no idea what that means. Can anyone help me.

    Thanks

    Hi Shirlsgirl:

Thanks for the insight. His Onc. wants to do another BMT in April, so I guess we will just sit tight until she gets the results from the BMT.

I think that MDS Foundation was not working this morning. I received a bad message also. Couldn’t get into the system.

Again, your positive thoughts and prayers are so important.

Dear Caroline:Thank you for your concern and good luck with your dad. Jim’s Oncologist put him on liquid B-12 drops as well as Iron and Folic Acid. Right now we are just living are life to the fullest.

Since Jim has a bad heart, he had triple by-pass surgery 2 years agao and now he needs a new heart…hahahah. At 73 they wont do much. So it is just like I said, we do things that make us happy…if it doesn’t cost much. Since his medical bills will kill us with cost of everything. I am not in the greatest health either. I am 71 and last year I had a passmaker put in.

I just hope that we both live without pain for a long time.

Please pray for us and I will pray for you dad.

    Dear Susan:

yes there is hope regarding MDS. My husband who is 73 was DIg with MDS over a year ago. So far he is on Folic Acid, Vit. B-12 and Iron pills. He has not started anyother treatment. He feels fine, a little tired at times but is doing well. He sees his Oncologist once a month and goes through blood test before seeing her. She said his blood test were just a little over normal and she doesn’t want to start him on any other treatment at this time.

So, there is hope. Hang in there and Pray.

    Dear Seekay:

Thank you so much for the information. I am still looking for some one that Jim can talk to that has lived at least for 5 years. The first 3 Oncologist that he saw said that his life span was 1 1/2 years. But so far it has been over a year and he has been feeling pretty good. We both just got over a bad cold and now since the weather is so nice we can go outside and sit on our patio. We live in Phoenix and it is suppose to be in the 80 this weekend.

Enjoy the game and thanks again for in info.

Thanks Suzanne for your answer. I guess I should just wait and see. His next appointment is on the 20th after he takes his BT. I hope they come out good and then I can relax and do nothing.

We got a 2 free night stay at a Resort and Casino not far from us in Nevada. We hope to go on the 22-23 of Feb.

My daughter and 2 granddaughters will be here for a visit in April. We are looking forward to seeing them. Otherwise are life is the same and that is good.

    Thanks again.

I haven’t heard from anyone since my last request. Jim went to the Mayo clinic and saw the top Oncologist. He said the same thing that the Oncologist said that he is seeing here in Phoenix area where we live. The md said that he should take Folic Acid, Iron pills and Vitamin B-12. Other then that , he will take a blood test every month and then see her 1 week after the BT.

So, someone please let me know if doing nothing is a good idea now or not. Jim did have by-pass surgery 2 years ago and his heart isn’t in good shape now. Since he is 73, he can’t have a BMT. So where do we stand now.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks again.

    Hi again good people:

I know so little about the figures that people talk about. Jim was told after having a BMB that he had MDS. That was in August 2005. Since then he has had no treatment. Last BT was WBC 3.5m /rbc 3.60/ MCV 102, MCH 36.0/ Platelets 105, Glucose 115. I have no idea what any of those figures mean. His last BMB was 10% blast. That was in august of 05. He hasn’t had anything else done since then.

Can anyone help me out with these figures. I really would appreciate any information.

    Thank you

    Hi Eve:

It seems that his cold and cough is getting worst. He has no fever yet but he wants to sleep 5-6 hours a day and then all night. I put him in the spare bedroom with a humidfier going all day and night. He doesn’t want to eat or drink anything either. I won’t see a md, so I just leave him alone and hope for the best.

    Thanks for your concern.

    Franm
