I've just been diagnosed with MDS. This became apparent when I suffered a fall resulting in fracture of my shoulder which caused a massive bruise/ internal bleed. i was very breathless and ended up being sent to hospital by my GP. my red cell count was 2.85, hg was88. I then had monthly blood tests and although levels rose, they have never reached the lower reference point of normal. I has a bone marrow biopsy in Oct, the results of this led to the diagnosis of MDS. I have another appt with the consultant next month, when presumable treatment/care will be discussed. It's all a lot to take on board. I've always been pretty fit and never had any health problems. I'm nearly 70. my only symptoms are breathlessness on exertion and fatigue. It's all rather scary!
