October 13 is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day
This awareness day was created specifically to draw attention to metastatic breast cancer, which is classified as Stage IV because cancerous cells have metastasized (spread) beyond the breast and nearby lymph nodes to distant sites in the body. Although Breast Cancer Awareness Month has been recognized since 1985, it wasn’t until 2009 that this day was officially declared. The goal is to help bring awareness to people living with Stage IV breast cancer and the challenges they face.
