    Hey All,

I hesitated whether or not to write this but decided to share our findings.. My Dad got sick with pneumonia this past year. He was put on steroids and went five weeks without tx. At that time, he was also on antibiotics and procrit. His lung Dr. and kidney Dr. contacted his hemotologist (isn’t that hilarious) and they began Dad on low dose of steroids. Yesterday,(after telling hemo that he was switching Dr. YEA!!!!)Dad found out that blood was 9.4. We are excited and praying…

I will keep you posted on results but we are just excited about caring Dr. willing to try something.

The news about revimid is exciting also. I pray it helps many of you on this site.

    I will keep you updated.

    Bec

P.S. Dad said Dr. said steroids have bad side efeects also. Have to way out what is worse.. tx problems or steroid problems… Always problems HA

    Hi Bec,
    That is good news.
5 weeks without a tx is great.
    Which steroid is he on?
His doc must have found an ideal dosage to minimize the side effects.
Keep watching for side effects . If he gets them and they are caught early they may be able to reduce the dosage rather than stop. Hate to see any improvement lost.
It is amazing how a drug and a patient connect and improvement takes place. Reinforces how the differences in patients make it important not to give up on a treatment because it did not work on some one else.
Could very well be the Procrit/steroid combination is what it takes to get his counts up.

    Dear Bec,
That’s great news! I’m so, so happy for you! My mom is one of those people who cannot take steroids without major problems. However, as has so often been said, all of us here are different. One has to do what…works!
I’m so happy for you and your dad! The news about Revlimid IS certainly exciting too. Our doctor says we must wait one more week; apparently, the doctors have to be trained in its use first! This is fine! I wouldn’t want them to be…er…untrained!
    Happy New Year, Everyone!

That’s good to hear. For 7 weeks my counts were very low and the oncologist was concerned as Procrit 60000 unit was doing nothing, well I had transfusion 12/22/05 and still felt terrible, went to pcp and was hospitalized for pneumnia and put on very high doses of intervenous antibodies and presnisone. Left the hospitl Xmas eve on bedrest and very strong antibiotics and presnisone and on 12/27/05 my hemo was 36 having gone up from 31 when I left the hospital. I feel pretty good but am still on all the extra meds etc. I went to pcp today and have to see a cardiologist for more test but I feel good, not well enough to go out much definitely on the mend.
