Mike and I did not have good news yesterday. His AML remission has now relapsed.

Dr.s (2) are split between recommending Vidaza and Mylotarg.

Has anyone had an experience with Relapsed AML and either one of these drugs. I just don’t know what to do as far as choice.

Mike is 65, and is said to not have dysplasia at this time. His leukemia diagnosis does not supposedly involve red blood cells. His counts: WBC 1.7 Platelets- 17 HGB-8.5

    Sandy,
I’m so sorry for what you and Mike are going through. You will be in my prayers.

    Sandy,
My prayers are with you, my husband had Mylotarg as well as Vidaza after his relapse. However in his case nothing helped. Mylotarg is a chemo that is stronger than Vidaza. Good Luck and the very best to Mike. Gloria

    Sandy,

There are so many people on the leukemia board that have been this route that I wonder if they could give you more of their personal experiences then any of us can here. Might try the LLS AML board.

I know mylotarg is extremely strong. Stronger then the Ara-C. Much of which drug you use might depend on Mike’s current state of health overall. If he has multiple health issues going on then it might not be wise to use something that strong. If he doesn’t, then it might be worth a shot. JMO.

Do you have a link to the board you are speaking of? I’d appreciate it.

Thanks KWJ and Patti. I am just not thinking so straight right now.

FYI: Found out that a small study at Loyola Univ. in Chicago, combined Vidaza and Mylotarg to treat 13 people. 11 with AML, 2 MDS. All patients over 60s year old. Results: 10 of 13 put into remission. 9 still in remission for 2 to 13 months so far in the tracking.

Spoke aboutit with our Oncologist today. He thinks it is a good idea for us, but we are all going to do more research before making a decision. He is recommending that we start the Vidaza first and see how that goes and then if well, add the Mylotarg.

Anyone else familiar with this study or studies like it? I would love to hear if you have.

    Hi Sandy

It sounds like a good plan. Keep fighting… you can do it.

Sandy, Found the study from Loyola – 76% remission sounds great. It was in proceedings from at the 2006 meeting of the American Society of Hematology. Blood. 2006;108:561a. Currently I could not find any further trials on this at Loyola or elsewhere. Makes one wonder why not?
