Hello everyone. I am new here. I haven’t been formally diagnosed with MDS yet, but my onc./hema. thinks I may have it. I am a 38 year old breast cancer survivor (2 1/2 years) and most likely acquired MDS as a result of having chemo and/or radiation. My white blood counts have been dropping since April, 2004, and all other counts have dropped since Jan 2005. I had a bone marrow biopsy 2 days ago (Wed, Feb. 23) and am awaiting the results. Once I am formally diagnosed, the MDS foundation recommends I see Dr. Stephen Gore at Johns Hopkins (I live in Maryland, about 30 mins. from Baltimore). I also saw in a previous post that he is speaking at Holy Cross hospital on Tues, March 1. I would love to attend this presentation but am not sure how to get registered. I called Audrey at the MDS Foundation and left her a msg. to call me back with the info. Until then, if anyone has anymore info on this presentation, I’d appreciate it.

    Thanks for listening.

Hi Jennifer, I go to Johns Hopkins too and am going to Dr. Gore’s talk. If you live anywhere near Holy Cross you are not far from me. I live in Olney. To register call 703 960-1100 ext 231 or email singers@dc-cap.leukemia-lymphoma.org. Maybe I will see you there.Johns hopkins is a great place to be treated!

Hello, Suzanne. I see you are very active here and I appreciate you responding so quickly. I just called to register for the lecture on March 1, so I will see you there. Oh, and I should tell you that Dr. Gore is not speaking this Tuesday. He will speak on April 15. Tuesday’s speaker is Dr. Blanche Mavromatis, who is out of Georgetown.

    Thank you again,

    Jennifer

Thank you for telling me.I called. Dr. Gore had a scheduling conflict. I have already heard Dr. Mavromatis probably over a year ago so I am not sure I will come -maybe-She is updating her presentation. But I will try to hear Gore on the rescheduled April 15.He is not my Dr but I know him from when I was in the hospital. He is very active in research & drug trials.

Hi Jennifer, I also am a breast cancer survivor and have just been diagnosed with Chemo induced MDS. After all we have been through, I am sure we will find a way to face this head on as well. I am thankful you are close to the experts and I hope you will learn alot at the lecture. Share the findings. I would love to know if there is anything we can do.
    God Bless, Lola

Thanks, Lola. Nice to hear from you. How long have you been a bc survivor? And may I ask you how old you are? If you dont’ want to share your age with everyone, please feel free to email me personally at jcp604@comcast.net.

    Thank you,

    Jennifer
