Mutations – second biopsy.

  Hi! My wife is helping me to write this. I am a 67 year old male. Was diagnosed with MDS single lineage on July 22. I used to work at The Idaho nuclear laboratory where I received too much radiation and I was exposed to chemicals. I am becoming more fatigued and having more pain. They say that my bone marrow is in hyper overdrive. I find out Monday what my mutations are. I was told that if I have one mutation they will be able to tell if I am headed to develop leukemia. If I have another mutation they may be able to put me on a medication to suppress that mutation. And I think the third thing is if I have certain mutations it will indicate the progressiveness of the MDS. I have also been told that if I’m going to have a bone marrow transplant and I have the mutation that’s going to develop into leukemia that I need to have the transplant prior to developing leukemia. Has anyone had a bone marrow transplant? How has your/their body and symptoms been afterwords.

  I appreciate any input. My wife and I are very concerned and confused. They have diagnosed me at intermediate. Thanks and happy November First! 🙂 Alan & Patty

  How did they diagnose you as intermediate? Was it purely based on your blood work?

  No, it was based upon the bone marrow biopsy. There were three main factors that they look at. My score ended up being 3.5 which put me at intermediate: Also I have a 7Q deletion! This was done by a transplant doctor and not a hematologist oncologist.
