My MDS is red blood cells. Dr plans to use our nurse once my hemoglobin parameters allow for it. my question is has anybody been on aranesp? how long does it take to start to work? once it works do you feel better more energy less tired etc.

Been on Aranesp for 3+ years started at Hgb under 10. 3 months ago, Hgb is down to 8. Every other week on Aranesp injection. Still taking along with 2 months of Revlimid. Waiting for kick start on the Revlimid. Aranesp will not make you less tired. Aranesp is to boost red blood cell production which may make you less tired. My del5q still makes red blood cells, but most are becoming strange looking.

I have been on Aranesp for 9 months and have had no results. I think I will get my last shot next week. I have been given an injection every 3 weeks. I also had a stem cell transplant for MDS in ’03. I guess that is the reason the Aranesp is not working. I don’t know what they will try next. My Hgb is now 7.3. I am also on Procrit or a biosimilar drug. (Zario) for my White count. My Hgb was 9 when I first started on Aranesp. I want to try the Luspatercept next, however the insurance company is telling me that I have to have at least 2 blood transfusions within a 2 month period of time in order to get this drug. I have only had 2 thus far. I think I will get one next week because I am extremely weak and can hardly breathe. I am considered low risk MDS. The office where I go has a protocol that says you have to be at 7 before you can be given blood. Good luck to you. Roz

Joe, are you still low risk? Are you wait and see with no meds?
