My husband was just hospitalized for 4 days for non-MDs related issues. During that time his hemoglobin dropped from 11.9 (he is on Procrit ) to 9.2. The same thing happened last year when he was hospitalized. I am wondering if anyone has had this happen to them. Does lying in bed not moving around have any thing to do with it? I don’t know if your bone marrow produces more red blood cells if you are ambulatory rather than stationary.

    Love and Prays to all,
    Janet

my husband has had a similar experience, his oncologist told us it’s normal. It’s the bodies reaction to whatever stress is happening in his body. As a nurse, I’ve seen this in my career..it’s why people in the hospital always look pale. Good luck!
