I will add how sorry I am to hear about your news. It was mid-November for me when my 69 year old (otherwise pretty healthy) mother called me and said “I have something called myelodysplasia”. I did like you and read on-line what I could until I’d reduced myself to a quivering, nauseated, teary eyed mess!! I hate for anybody to have to feel that way!

There is a “Center of Excellence” in Tucson, AZ – in case you haven’t yet discovered that. How far is your mother from Tucson?

In a statement announcing Matsui’s death, his office disclosed that the congressman had been diagnosed several months ago with myelodysplastic disorder, an often-fatal form of bone marrow cancer. The congressman’s family said he entered the hospital on Dec. 24 with pneumonia.

This is how is was phrased in the article I found on-line at story.news.yahoo.com ….. as soon as I heard “rare blood disorder” I got a sick feeling in my stomach and started pecking away on-line. I always do that and then I’m always sorry I did.

My mom is responding positively to her very expensive injections and her hematocrit has come up to 33 from 31.8 on November 30. Hemaglobin has come up as well – but she forgot to ask. She’s not receiving Procrit – but a similar formula …. every two weeks …. she knows no more than than. She’s sort of sticking with her “head in the sand” approach and depending on me to throw up any flags or questions. Does anybody think it is alarming if they are not closely monitoring her blood pressure?
