My husband died recently at age 74 of MDS which led to acute leukemia. About a year before his MDS diagnosis in Feb. 2014, he had completed a year of Coumadin/warfarin after having a blood clot. I’ve seen some anecdotal links between MDS and Coumadin/warfarin. I am wondering whether other MDS patients have had any history with Coumadin/warfarin.

Hello Diane, I too have a wife with your name, and I too have MDS. I am 75. I have been on Warfarin for over 10 years. I was wondering the same as you. However I also was exposed to many chemicals in my job as mechanic that may have caused this. My father was 78 when he died of the same thing I have. They called it Pre Leukemia 30 years ago. I am sorry for your loss Diane. I would like to ask you just what was it that he died from?
I understand that it will be an infection of some sort.
Best wishes to you and family.

    Hi!
I was just diagnosed this week after I had a kyroplasty to repair a fracture in my back. Routine biopsy, they said….I am 60 years old and I have been taking warfarin / coumadin for nearly 40 years. When I was 19, I had an accident that cut my leg nearly off. A wonderful surgeon saved the leg but circulation was poor. To prevent clots, they put me on coumadin. What that means now I don’t know, but that’s my story.
