My husband has been on Vidaza for 12 months and is transfusion dependent – high risk MDS. Doctor wants him to have another bone marrow biopsy but his platelets range in the 15-25K range, How low can platelets be to still have the procedure without a very high risk of bleeding?

My wife’s platelets where below 14, they gave her platelets minutes before doing the bmb, no side effects that effected the outcome

Thanks for the reply – I assume this was done in the hospital?

sorry for the delay in responding yes it was done in the hospital. I believe they used the ct scan to get the best results. Previous biopsy done in the office where all done poorly with not enough samples gathered.
