My father is 70 and was diagnosed about a month ago with MDS. He is RCMS-RS and has been in the hospital for the past 2 weeks with white blood cell count below .5. And he has been experiencing excoriating back pain. Back pain that makes him shake so badly he could be having a seizure (but he is not). Has anyone else had experience with this? Its beyond painful to see him in so much pain. Thanks for any advice you might have on how to cope with this. We have given morphin and it doe not help him at all.

So sorry to hear of your father. I am 65 have had a mild form of MDS, RARS since last year about this time. I have experienced back pain but nothing like you are describing. I have read of others having back and other joint or bone pain in various degrees but your fathers sounds worse than any I have heard described. This disease seems to be all over the place however in severity of symtoms, I hope they can find him some relief. Prayers for you both.

Kimberly,
I did have back pain but I think morphine would have helped. I would ask docs to do Some further testing to see what is causing this excruciating pain.
