Is fibrous bone marrow a bad thing? I am somewhat confused by what this means.

    Hi Sarah,

Has Charlie’s doctor mentioned myelofibrosis? Hope you get some answers soon. How is he doing?

    Take care,

    Jody

No, he is still dx’d MDS RAEB. Dr just says that his bone marrow has become fibrous, unable to aspirate. He is doing ok, stays tired.

    Sarah,
Ask the doctors if the fibroous bone marrow might prevent a SCT from grafting. One of the reasons that I went ahead with a donor search was to have one ready in case myelofibrosis began to take over too much of the area inside my bones. Good thing I had donor available when the CMML took off unexpectedly. We will pray for a good outcome for Charlie and know that we are here to support you, too.

Oh dear, this is worrying! The last BMB Hans had before his last round of chemo started, they could not get very much marrow out, so they cancelled the 2nd biopsy which was to be done after 3 days of treatment on Gleevec, before the regular chemo started. Nobody has mentioned myelofibrosis to us at all. He is scheduled to have another biopsy next Wed, to see if he is in remission….Is myelofibrosis the only reason for not being able to get out much marrow? They still seem positive about him heading for a SCT — his brother is a perfect match.
