Have read the heartfelt comments under “Grief” and several other terribly sad postings.
Read the prayer under “For All” posting and am wondering – does anyone have a prayer/poem too that may help those of us that have lost a loved one that we may find comforting or help us cope?
December 11, 2006 at 5:01 am #16321rileyMemberI have several prayers and poems that people have given me since my father passed away, so I’ll post a few of them for you. Here’s one:
Weep not for me though I am gone
Into that gentle night
Grieve if you will, but not for long
Upon my soul’s sweet flight.I am at peace, my soul’s at rest
There is no need for tears.
For with your love I was so blessed
For all those many years. There is no pain, I suffer not,
The fear now all is gone.
Put now these things out of your thoughts,
In your memory I live on.Remember not my fight for breath
Remember not the strife
Please do not dwell upon my death,
But celebrate my life.December 11, 2006 at 5:05 am #16322rileyMemberSafely Home
I am home in heaven, dear ones.
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is a perfect joy and beauty
in the everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over,
every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
safely home in heaven at last.
There is work still waiting for you,
so you must not idly stand,
do it now, while life remaineth —
You shall rest in God’s own land.
When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you Home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting.
Oh, the joy to see you come!December 11, 2006 at 5:07 am #16323rileyMemberDeath is not extinguishing the light…
It is putting out the lamp because the dawn has come.December 11, 2006 at 5:10 am #16324rileyMemberCall me by the old familiar name
Speak of me in the easy way which you
Always used
Laugh as we always laughed at the jokes
We enjoyed together
Play. Smile. Think of me. Pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word
That is always was
Let it be spoken without effort
Without the ghost of a shadow upon it
Life means all that it ever meant
It is the same as it ever was
There is absolute and unbroken continuity
I am but waiting for you
For an interval
Somewhere very near
Just around the corner
ALL IS WELL!December 11, 2006 at 5:16 am #16325rileyMemberIf You Could See Me Now
Your prayers have all been answered.
I’ve finally arrived.
The healing that had been delayed
has now been realized. No one’s in a hurry,
there’s no schedule to keep.
We’re all enjoying Jesus,
just sitting at His feet.If you could see me now,
I’m walking streets of gold.
If you could see me now,
I’m standing tall and whole.
If you could see me now,
you’d know I’ve seen HIS face.
If you could see me now,
you’d know the pain’s erased. You wouldn’t want me to ever leave this place.
If you could only see me now.December 11, 2006 at 5:37 am #16326rileyMemberPrayer for Those Who Suffer
For those who suffer,
and those who cry this night,
give them repose, Lord;
a pause in their burdens.
Let there be minutes
where they experience peace,
not of man
but of angels.
Love them, Lord,
when others cannot.
Hold them, Lord,
when we fail with human arms.
Hear their prayers
and give them the ability to hear You back
in whatever language they best understand.December 11, 2006 at 5:40 am #16327rileyMemberPrayer for the Lonely
Loving God,
there are times in each life
when there is no one.
No one with whom to share
a word,
a laugh,
a sad remembrance,
a gentle touch,
a fond embrace,
a kiss of love.
Bless each one who suffers
from such loneliness.
Enrich life with a friend
or gentle stranger
who will spend a moment
noticing
and loving.
In those times
your love shines through,
the world is reborn,
and Christ is known.
So be it!
Amen.December 11, 2006 at 9:06 pm #16328Jack_dup1MemberI looked in the mirror and smiled
Although I knew that death was near
I looked in the mirror and smiled
Because I knew that God was near.
I heard his voice so soft and low
As He beckoned me to come.
I Asked “dear Lord, a few more days”.
He said “all right, my son”.I looked in the mirror and smiled
It was a smile I had not known
The look was a peaceful one
Because, all my fears had flown.
I felt his hand upon my brow
His was so soft and warm
He beckoned me to follow him.
I asked “please wait ’till morn”.
I looked in the mirror and smiled
because, there, to my surprise,
Not just one, but two of us
Looked into each others eyes.
There stood my Lord awaiting me
His arm around me now
He said “my son, the time has come
For your home up in the sky”.
I looked in the mirror and smiled
As I waved my last good-byeDecember 16, 2006 at 2:13 am #16329LydiaMemberThank you so much Riley and Jack. Riley, so very, very sorry about your dad. How thoughtful of you to continue to post on this forum.
Little did I know that I would need these words myself so soon. My 98 year old grandmother passed on early this morning and these certainly help with this expected, but no less terrible event. I am printing them all to pass on to my family and others and will keep in my files.
I’m sure others on this forum with find comfort now or in the future. Thank you from all of us . . .

thank you !December 16, 2006 at 4:16 am #16331ButchLParticipantI thought I saw your face today,
in the sparkle of the morning sun.And then I heard the angel say,
“Their work on earth is done.”I thought I felt your touch today,
in the breeze that rustled by.And then I heard the angel say,
“The spirit never dies.”I thought that you had left me,
for the stars so far above. And then I heard the angel say,
“They left you with their love.”I thought that I would miss you so,
and never find my way.And then I heard the angel say,
“They’re with you every day.”“The sun, the wind, the moon, the stars, will forever be around,
reminding you of the love you shared, and the peace they’ve finally found.”December 18, 2006 at 5:01 am #16332rileyMemberLydia,
I’m very sorry for the loss of your grandmother. I’m glad the poems that Jack, Butch and I posted have brought you some comfort. I hope your happy memories of your grandmother will bring you peace.
