Hi Frank, Yes it is new and is scheduled to be released in late May. However I believe I’ve seen where some on this forum have been taking it in clinical trials already.thanks for posting, it sounds promising.

I don’t think it is new. It has been in trials for quite a while. I believe they were trying for an early approval and got it partially approved as an orphan drug as mentioned. According to some vague notes I have it is closely related to Vidaza( 5-Azacytidine)

    Hi Frank
My Mom is currently doing a trial of the drug. She transformed to AML from MDS in Nov. So far so good. She is responding well with significant decrease in marrow blasts. However, as the article mentioned, she is having chronically low white and platelets. She is going on her 7th month/cycle next week. Her reds have been holding more steady, and she is going further between transfusions. Other than the low white and platelets, she has had no other side effects and does not feel sick at all after treatments.
    Best of Luck

To Frank – re Dacogen vs Vidaza. Our Oncol/hemo Dr chose Vidaza over Dacogen for my wife because he felt (based on trials in his clinic) that the red and white counts would be dragged down more than w/ Vidaza. 1 cycle of Vidaza did cause red and whites to drop and a transfusion brought them back up. Not much help, I’m afraid.

Engel, the closest one is probably Dr.List in Tampa. Considered one of the top specialists in the country. Good luck with the BMB.
