With a little planning on our part, Kathy (his ex companion in Chicago, who is still a friend to my dad and a huge help/friend to me)has been calling him every morning at 7:30 and saying, “have a great day with physical therapy!” and he has participated for the past 4 days!
We thought if someone called him in the morning (not me, it’s the only chance I have to sleep)and told him it was a physical therapy day with encouragement that he might fixate on THAT instead of having a doctor appointment or something else. It is working for now. Hooray.
The staff there has been fantastic to him and me! I have made some new friends there who are taking a bit of a special interest in helping my dad stay there and get stronger. I appreciate their help!
He has been going to the dining room for meals and thinking a bit more clearly.
Now, I know this is temporary, but I’ll take whatever I can get and today, I just relaxed! It was a great relief!
Now, if we can just get him to shower more often without a fuss and use the nurse call button (I have no shame in reaching for the stars)! Tonight, his nurse, Dennis, called me and said my dad had a little fall trying to get up from his chair without assistance. Luckily, he was alright, not even a bump.
I am grateful for a good day!
Peace,
Karenk
