Just got husband home from hospital, had kidney stones..urine gray to dark yellow then to clear. His kidney’s are only working at 35%. The kidney level went up over 4.2 and has returned to 2.1.6 His red blood cells dropped to 7.4 and platlets were 14, WBC never have been a problem. He got 2 units of blood and one unit of platlets..RBC only went up to 9.6…they want to start him on cancer treatment next week and put a port in. He is not wanting to go with any treatment at this time. He has only had two transfusions this year and this is the 2nd for the platlets. Doctor is telling him he has no time to wait. He is 67 years old and has lost over 60 pounds since Jan. He has been getting procrit shots since Jan on and off and his level keep jumping up and down…DO I LET HIM HOLD OFF OR PUSH HIM TO CONTINUE??
Does anyone have any information on the effect that Dacogen has on the kidneys?????

    Suzie,

The http://www.dacogen.com site states that your doctor should be aware of any kidney disease (which your doctor is). It says that kidney testing would be done periodically and that the dose may be adjusted accordingly. Go to Google and type in “Dacogen and kidney function” and read what there is. This way you can ask your doctor the right questions. Is this the first chemo treatment that he has tried? Also, has your husband had a history of kidney stones and/or kidney function problems? Is he on Exjade for iron overload?

There is a lot of info out there and perhaps someone on this forum can share a similar experience. Take a deep breath and you will do the right thing. There are alot of prayers being said for the people on this forum.

Take care and keep us posted,

    Mary

    thanks again
