My husband,69, was dx a year ago and now is in stage 2 (6%). Primary is low white blood cell count. He got pneumonia in oct which lasted (moving from upper lobes to lower lobes) for two months. Though MRI indicate lungs are clear, he is still coughing. Just over case of strep and now another cold is coming.we go to mds center, see oncologist, infectious control dr, pulmonologist and cardiac dr. Husband is so fatigue that he spends most of day in bed. We are both depressed. Does anyone else have or had these symptoms? His blood counts are considered good now.

Dear Linda, I know this is a difficult situation for you and I would recommend that you take him to one of our Centers of Excellence in MDS so that he can be carefully assessed. Depression, anxiety, and other psychosocial stressors may also manifest itself during the course of one’s battle with MDS. Engaging the help of a psychologist or psychiatrist and/or the use of antidepressants or antianxiety medications may help these symptoms. Following is a link to our Centers of Excellence worldwide https://www.mds-foundation.org/mds-centeres-of-excellence/. I hope this information helps. If we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
