My husband was diagnosed with high risk MDS in 2014 and commenced treatment with azacitidine injections 7 days out of every 6 weeks (75ml as he couldn’t stand more). He was able to go without blood transfusions from March 2016 to November 2017 but now the azacitidine doesn’t appear to the effective and he’s back on tranfusions (hb 81, negligible white cells and neuts, but platelets OK on the whole. He is 73 years of age.
He lives in Wigan UK and is treated at Christie’s cancer care centre, Wigan Infirmary.
Is there any other treatment he could have to prolong his life? He is prone to infections and just out of hospital after 10 days with a throat infection. He is unable to do much at all due to extreme weakness.
He is having daily injections of Nivemstim 5ml to boost his neuts.
