Suzanne, thanks so much for asking for me! You rock. I hope I get an appointment soon. So here’s another difficulty factor with my dad having MDS or AA. He speak pretty good English with normal everyday stuff, but he really had trouble with all this MDS talk and has trouble understanding his doctors, etc. I don’t know about his chances of understanding that talk you mentioned. Thank you so much for letting me know about it, though.

Sarah- oh my gosh, that is confusing. that must have been really frustrating for you all. ahhhh.. which one did you end up going with to treat?

Suzanne- thanks for your advice. Dr. Spivak’s first appointment seems to be in END OF APRIL.. might go with Dr. Brodsky. I am going to call him tomorrow. Thanks for offering to let me know what the first appointment might be like! my email is yk5v@virginia.edu Do you remember if it took a few visits before they completed the workup for a 2nd opinion?

Frank- Hi! thanks for your reply. He goes to see Dr. Nassar Khan right now. He’s in fairfax. What about you? Also, I just had a thought this morning. What about Georgetown or George Washington? Are those good, do you know? I didn’t think I saw them as listed as one of the centers of excellence, but I’ll have to look again.

Sarah- wow, 4 different opinions, huh? What are they like? I just wonder how many visits it usually takes for someone to pronounce a 2nd opinion. Do you live near VA, Maryland, Washington D.C. at all?

Thanks everyone for your replies. I’m so glad you’re here.

thanks! Which hematologist do you go see? I’m so relieve to hear you say that they’ve been nice. (sometimes big name instutitions don’t have a warm reputation.) If you get a chance, please do ask about Dr. Spivak. thanks again!
