    Carrie-
My Dad started Vidaza today too. I am so praying this will be a success for him. His counts are dropping – his platelets are low and it has him so worried. We’ll have to stay in touch and see how they do. This is such an emotional rollercoaster.

    Carrie-
How is your Dad doing? Mine seems to be tolerating it OK but it’s only been 2 doses. Hope he is doing well.

Carrie, My husband is on his second go around with the Vidaza, completed 6 months last April and it got his Blast down in the Marrow to Normal. His counts were pretty stable for 7 months. His Whites started rising and so did the blast. Doc did a BMB and started him back on the Vidaza, So far its been ok. Bobs counts are holding.
One suggestion to all I would talk to your Doctor or a Nutritionist about Vitamins to Boost the Immune system during the treatment. OUr Hemotologist also has Bob on Levaquin an antibiotic.

I know my dad’s taking supplements but I’m not sure where from or what kind. I think he’s eating better, too. He’s never been very good at taking care of himself so he has to learn to. He’s up to over 300 lbs and he’s struggled with weight for a long time frown .

He’s taking the Vidaza well except for a small reaction at the site. They’re keeping an eye on it but they think that they injected it in the muscle instead of the vein. They may change where they inject it. The last time I talked to my mother was Tuesday and I figure no new is good news so far.

How long does it take after the last dose for the counts to intially go down? I know that’s where he has to be very vigilant.

    Thanks!

    eve,

Okay, now I’m confused and my mom must be, too. I’ll call her today for clarification…

    Thanks for the info!

Actually the injections are what they call SUBQ, just below the skin not in to the muscle or vein.

terri is absolutely correct – definitely not into the vein

SubQ sounds more like what my mom meant. I think I filled in the blanks with what I thought I heard. So I guess they have to make sure they don’t put it into his muscle again but definitely not into his vein.

That explains why they don’t use his port for the injection.

Thanks Greg – so far he is doing OK with Vidaza -I keep holding me breath. He’s got a bit of a cold so I’ve been worried it might get worse but he’s hanging in there.

Thanks for all the positive thoughts.

    Kathy
