I am looking at the option of having an Unrelated BMT or MUD as none of my siblings are compatible for a BMT
As I am BT dependant,(every 12 days) and RAEB-1, I was wondering what my long term prognosis would be and if any of you good folks have had real success and enjoyed good health as a result of a MUD.
    Kind regards
    Ken

Ken, There are a lot of people who have had success with transplants. What are your blasts? Where are you thinking of going for the transplant?
Check out the following site – under transplants. They seem to get a little more action on this site because it is broader, not just MDS.

    Good Luck!

Hi Bev, thanks for quick reply and the leukemia web site
My blasts are 7% and have not changed in two years, however I am due for another BMB soon.
All going well will have the the transplant in New Zealand.
    Thanks once again

Go to http://www.marrow.org. In Patients/familty section, there ar tons of information on tranplant centers and their expereinces, and success rates.
    Good luck.

My favorite website for finding stories from others going thru chemo, stem cell transplants, etc.. is thejournalofaprizefighter.com . On the left side is a section ‘Fellow Prize Fighters’.
I had a mud sct Jan 9 and, so far, knock on wood, fingers crossed, doing really well so far. If you are in otherwise good physical and mental health it’s worth a shot if you are under 60 years old.
Back to the website mentioned above, Duane is 1 year out of mud xplant and is still experiencing some annoying GVHD. It’s a tough and unpredictable road, but it *is* the only road out of bone-marrow-failure town.
